From The Director

The Depot participated with the Main Street Project on a Henderson TV commercial that has brought an abundance of visitors to the museum this summer. Even with the hot weather, attendance is already above that of last year.

My new position as director has been a great adventure that has kept me on my toes. We also have a new assistant director, whose name is Jim White. Jim used to be a Captain at the Henderson Fire Department. He has jumped in with both feet and is doing an excellent job. We are so happy he has joined our Depot family.

The city donated the Lake Forest Park carousel to the Depot Museum. This summer, the relocation was made by a crew of men from Zachry Co., who coordinated the move. Hertz Rental loaned the fork lifts and United Rental provided the truck that transported the carousel. It had to be moved as a complete unit and was quite a parade coming down Highway 64. At the Depot, it was a tight squeeze between the oil derrick and the pole barn to it's permanent home. The city set the cement foundation and Blazer Electric wired the equipment. The first rides were given in June at Grandparents Day. Plans are under way to restore the carousel since some repairs are needed. It is hoped that it will be in operating condition at the Heritage Syrup Festival this November.

Tom Perryman, DJ for "The Ranch" radio station, has written a book about his years in the radio business. The Depot sponsored a book signing where Tom and his wife Billie told tales and signed books for his fans. Signed copies of "Keepin it Country" are available at the Depot.

Susan is already missed. Her historical knowledge and love for the museum keeps her coming back to volunteer. She helps with the historical information and cemetery markers.
